EOTC Participants Achieve Life-Changing Goals
Each year, more than 2,000 men, women and children of all ages find life-changing
options among EOTC programs. Some recent examples:
Orlando, a native of Columbia, worked as a transport assistant for an assisted living
facility when he came to EOTC. A trained physician in his native country, Orlando
had earned a medical assistant certificate after coming to the U.S. With help from
EOTC’s Workforce Development team, Orlando practiced his English, learned about
job search techniques and created a more effective resume. He secured a full-
time position as a telemetry technician in a local hospital, and is preparing to obtain
his U.S. physician’s license. EOTC also helped Orlando’s family members access
community services.

Sue was failing most of her sixth grade classes and not working to her potential
when she joined EOTC’s Mentoring program. Sue and her EOTC mentor set out
to curtail excessive socializing so Sue could devote more time to school work. The
efforts of this mentoring pair paid off when Sue received a Fall Scholar recognition
from her teachers. EOTC’s youth mentoring initiative matches screened college
students with elementary and middle-school students who live in Scranton.

Four year old Bart is talking up a storm thanks to EOTC’s Parents as Teachers
program. A PAT parent educator helped Bart’s family navigate an overwhelming
maze of referrals and medical appointments. Our parent educator’s calm and
efficient work helped the bright but very frustrated child receive the help he
required to express his needs. Bart is much happier now, and the whole family
greets the parent educator when she arrives for her home visits with, “Guess what
words Bart said this week?”
